Make the shortlist when buyers ask AI which tool to pick

Buyers now ask ChatGPT to compare products before they open a single review site, and it answers with a short list and a reason for each. BrandGauge shows how often your product is on that list, which competitors take your place, and which pages the AI leaned on to decide.

The questions that write the shortlist

Online buyers describe a job and a constraint: an invoicing app for freelancers, a CRM for a team of five, a shop that ships to Europe. We write those questions from your category and the use cases you name, without your brand in them, so the answer shows whether the AI thinks of you unprompted.

Every question is yours to edit before the scan runs.

Questions askedExample
Which invoicing app for freelancers?
Simple invoicing tool that handles several currencies?
Cheaper alternative to the big accounting suites for a one-person business?

Leave the city empty, name the use case

Enter your product, your category, and leave the location blank unless you only sell in one market. A domain works as the name: linear.app counts every answer that says “Linear”.

Use the optional details for who it is for and what it does best. That is what separates the questions you should be winning from the ones you were never going to.

03

The competitors it names, and the pages it trusts

You get the products the AI recommended instead, ranked by how often — the rivals you expected, and sometimes one you had not counted as a competitor.

Next to them are the pages it read before answering: comparison articles, review platforms, “best tools” roundups and forum threads. That is where a shortlist gets written, and the report shows which of those pages leave you out.

See what a launch actually moved

A comparison page, a new integration, a mention in a roundup — a subscription re-measures every week on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, so you see whether the work changed what the AI says.

A change is called out only when it beats the noise, and editing a question starts a fresh baseline, so a reworded question never passes for progress.

Rather we did the work? We can.

BrandGauge is also a service. Our team works out why your product misses the shortlist, improves the comparison pages, reviews and other sources the AI leans on, and measures what changed afterwards.

Tell us about the brand and we'll send a scope and a price. You don't need an account or a scan to get in touch.

Questions

What people ask

We are well known. Why would our number be low?+

Because the questions are about the category, not about you. Being well known and being the product the AI reaches for when asked for a recommendation are different things — that gap is what this measures.

Does it work for online shops, not just software?+

Yes. Anything a buyer picks from a shortlist works the same way: describe the category and who buys it, and the questions follow. Add a location only if you sell into one market.

Can I measure a competitor?+

Every report already ranks the brands named instead of you. To measure one of them as the tracked brand, run a scan with their name.
